Congratulations to Mrs. Lyndsey Shehorn, the most recent recipient of a Maple Leaf Medallion at Millikin Elementary. Mrs. Shehorn was nominated by one of her students, Logan Springer, and his family. As he puts it, "Mrs. Shehorn is the cat's pajamas!"
GHS will again host a Dance Marathon this year. Over the years, our students have raised more than $80,000 for the Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City and they are excited to start fundraising again. They have partnered with Texas Roadhouse in Davenport for a give back night on Monday, October 28 from 3-10 p.m. Simply print the attached image and present it with your check and 10% of your total food purchases will be donated to Dance Marathon. Every year, the Geneseo Chamber Christmas Walk committee conducts a youth essay contest to see who gets the honor of riding in the parade with Santa Claus and flipping the switch on the town’s Christmas Tree! This week, Geneseo's Michele Hepner was formally presented with her 2024 School Nutrition Champion award by Tim Murphy and Roxanne Ramage of the Illinois State Board of Education’s Nutrition Department and Samia Hamdan and Vista Fletcher from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The recognition took place at Geneseo Middle School, where the guests also toured the building and met with some of the school nutrition team. Congrats again to Michele! Good luck to our XC middle school team as they head to the IESA State meet on Saturday. Today they took part in our GMS Walk of Champions to celebrate a phenomenal season on their way to state.

Geography students at GMS designed their own Illinois flags this past week, selecting historical and modern images to symbolize this great state of ours. Groups electrically submitted their work to the IL Flag Commission for consideration as the actual next state flag. Thank you to Ms. Bush, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. DePauw for leading our students through this incredibly engaging design process.

Congratulations to GHS English teacher Joleen Easley on receiving a Maple Leaf Medallion! Mrs. Easley (shown with Asst. Principal Brooke Emmerson) was nominated by one of her students. "She has overall been amazing, not just as a teacher, but also as a person. I truly appreciate all that she has done for me," the student wrote. Two amazing young leaders were honored with Maple Leaf Medallions at GMS on Monday. Kyah Newell, a Senior at GHS who volunteer coached and mentored with our GMS Softball program, and Khloe VonHolten, an 8th grade Softball player who demonstrates incredible grit and selfless leadership every day, on and off the field.
GMS students work their tails off practicing math skills through Khan Academy every week. About 200 of them earned enough level ups and minutes for some fun in the sun with their peers Thursday afternoon!
To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Geneseo schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18. The fun and creative campaign theme, “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom. GHS football players and cheerleaders went to elementary schools across the district this morning to pump them up for homecoming! The kids loved seeing the hs students there!
Congratulations to student, Jensen Vroman, who received the Wednesday Difference Maker award for the most nominations from staff as a Difference Maker at GHS. Jensen was awarded QC Storm tickets this morning by the mascot, Radar. Congrats, Jensen!
Amid the excitement of Homecoming dress-up days at GMS, learning was still the most important priority this week. Students in Mrs. Atwell's 8th grade science classes were using principles of physics to design marble roller coasters and students in 7th grade geography with Ms. Bush and Mrs. Jackson were busy making connections between their classrooms and their world.
