Geneseo High School has hired Ryan Hill to be its new varsity boys’ basketball head coach.
“Geneseo is a tight community that cares about its sports and when it comes to basketball, we hope to build on what’s already there,” said Hill. “I am optimistic everyone will be excited for a new opportunity and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to work. I’m going to be dedicated to our program and we’ll get as many kids as possible into the gym to get started. Hopefully, we’ll enjoy some success in the years to come.”

Outstanding music performed Monday night at the Geneseo School's 5th grade Recorder Concert. Honors Band and Beginner Band both showcased the incredible talent and program that Geneseo Bands demonstrate every year, while 5th grade musicians took the first step in their musical journey.






Medieval Europe was introduced this week with a really engaging simulation with 6th graders. 6th graders experienced what being King, Queen, Nobles, Vassals and Peasants was really like.





Geneseo Middle School hosted our 3rd Annual Career Fair for 8th grader students on Friday, April 21st. Students met and spoke with dozens of local Geneseo businesses, state and local police, states attorney, Chanel 8 Weather Team, John Deere welding, and more in this first step in their journey for Career Readiness. Thank you, sincerely, to all the businesses and guests who joined us for this great event with our students.











Grounds Day at GMS was a huge success, with over 50 students, parents and staff helping to make GMS and the Walking Track beautiful. Thank you to all our volunteers for coming out tonight and rocking it in only 3 hours. #BeLeaf











GHS junior Bella McDaniel was awarded a Maple Leaf Medallion by Brooke Emmerson, assistant principal at the high school, for demonstrating the values of Teach - Learn - Care. Bella was nominated by GMS counselor Amy Feely for starting a student group called Delivered at the middle school, where she works with students to teach lessons on self-awareness, coping skills, and friendships. Mrs. Feely says, "Bella is patient, a great listener, and teaches these students valuable skills." Congrats, Bella!


Performances for this year's spring musical, Seussical™, will take place this week at GHS. Tickets for the upbeat, family-friendly show featuring your favorite Dr. Seuss characters are $15 each and can be purchased online or at the door. The GMS Spring Book Fair is now open. Family night is Tuesday, 5-7pm, in the library and large group room. Students will visit the book fair during ELA classes this week, and can also stop by 7:45-8:05 am each morning to purchase books. Let's READ GMS!





Congratulations to our Geneseo Student Leadership Award winners for 2022-23. IL Principals Association Principals award two top students from each K-8 school for demonstrating servant leadership throughout their entire time at Millikin, Northside, Southwest and GMS. These students are truly Teach Learn Care in action!







8th grade GMS students got their first taste of high school today when they visited GHS for an amazing tour and early welcome to 9th grade. Thank you to Mr. Ryerson and all the GHS staff for giving 8th graders this great opportunity, and thank you to Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Feely for organizing the day.







Congratulations to Nyna Schweitzer, Neveah Rotz, and Brooklyn Smith for winning the Geneseo Rotary Club U.S. Constitution Essay contest. Nyna's essay was 1st place, Neveah was 2nd, and Brooklyn 3rd, all winning a cash prize as well. Each young lady wrote about what the Constitution means to them and their family.





GMS is appreciating and celebrating our incredible Assistant Principal this week, Mr. Dean Johnson. His sacrificial service to each student, commitment to work with and hear each parent, and love of learning and the community is a big part of what makes our school a great place to learn and work. 6th grade ELA students take part in a gallery walk on the Holocaust today. Groups rotated to different artifacts to view, read and discuss the impact of each. The walk was a simulation of the Holocaust Museum, preparing students to read the book "The Boy Who Dared," a book based on a true story about a youth in Nazi Germany who told the truth about Hitler and his regime in the 30s and 40s.





Geneseo schools will be dismissing 1 hour early on Tuesday afternoon due to the severe weather in our area. Lunch will be offered to students as usual. There will be no afternoon preschool, S.A.F.E., sports or extracurriculars this afternoon and evening. Stay safe!
