To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Geneseo’s schools are celebrating National School Lunch Week from October 10-14, 2022.
The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.
Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week highlights the nutritious foods available daily at Geneseo’s schools.
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Michele Hepner, Food Service Director for Geneseo Community Unit School District #228. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”
Elementary schools are giving away bracelets all week for any student that participates in school lunch along with other activities specific to their building. GMS is participating in dress-up days to help celebrate “Peace, Love & School Lunch.”
The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 75 years. Students can enjoy the convenience of a healthy school lunch for just $2.80 elementary, $3.00 middle & high school. Some students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Contact the Food Service office at 309-945-0414 to learn more.
The “Peace, Love & School Lunch” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association and Kellogg’s. Parents and students can follow the fun on social media using the hashtags #NSLW22, #PeaceLoveSchoolLunch and #SchoolLunch.
