Geneseo’s Board of Education honored its three outgoing board members–Barry Snodgrass, Jackie Mickley and Karen Urick–during its monthly meeting on Thursday.
Snodgrass has served on the board since 1997, including as president over the last two years. Mickley was on the board from 2003-15 and 2023-25, while Urick has served since 2017.
“We are so appreciative of your years of service,” said Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh, “and it's going to be hard to replace you. I'm so thankful that we have community members who are willing to step up and also serve.”
Brumbaugh continued, “We don't have a lot of awards, but to me, the most special one I can give out is the Maple Leaf Medallion for demonstrating Teach - Learn - Care of the highest order. These medallions mean something to me, and hopefully they mean something to you. Selfless service is really high on my values, and I really appreciate what each of you have done for our district.”
The Board of Education’s incoming members–Casey Disterhoft, Tyler Robertson and Kelly Storm–will each take their Oath of Office on May 8 at a special meeting that will precede the regular meeting. That same night, the roles of president, vice president and secretary will be nominated and elected.
Millikin Principal Philip Moe was also on hand at the meeting to recognize three of his students, Shelby Ash, Lillian Fahner and Clara Geer.
The students were nominated by staff and selected as the school’s quarterly Pizza with the Principal program winners.
“In order to be nominated for Pizza with the Principal, students can excel in one of four areas: effort, attitude, behavior and grit,” explained Mr. Moe. “Shelby, Lillian and Clara are very worthy recipients and I enjoyed sitting down with them for pizza and Oreos. The three of them are all wonderful students who make our school better in their own ways.”
