Four students from Millikin Elementary were recognized at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting for having prominent roles in the school’s upcoming Christmas program.
Millikin Principal Philip Moe was joined by the school’s music teacher, Haley Tromblee, to introduce Eden Ebert, Archie Casey, Noah Timmerman and Charlotte Jones.
“This is an awesome group of kids,” said Ms. Tromblee. “Each student has worked very hard to memorize lines and they’ve had great auditions leading up to our program. Eden, Archie, Noah and Charlotte are all talented, great leaders and wonderful students.”
Also honored at the board’s monthly meeting were state qualifiers from Geneseo High School’s tennis and golf teams.
Varsity Girls Tennis Coach Kevin Reed was on hand to introduce five student-athletes who advanced to the Class 2A State Tennis Final, which took place Oct. 24-26 at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
To get to state, junior Madison Reade and sophomore Kendyl Wassenhove finished in third place out of 18 doubles teams at sectionals, while senior Lily Taylor and freshman Stella Smith finished in fourth. In singles play at sectionals, senior Addison Snodgrass finished fourth out of 18 individuals.
“I’m very proud of what our team accomplished this year, finishing 2nd at both conference and sectionals,” said Coach Reed. “Addison, Lily, Madison, Kendyl and Stella worked hard throughout the season and competing at state is a nice achievement.”

Varsity Boys Golf Coach Scott Hardison recognized senior Bryson VanHoutte and junior Kwin VanKerrebroeck for competing in the Class 2A Golf State Final Tournament that took place on Oct. 18-19 at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
VanHoutte made the cut and advanced to the second day of competition, then finished tied for 21st place with a two-day score of 153.
“At sectionals, we played a tough course in tough conditions,” said Coach Hardison of the team, which finished 2nd at conference and 3rd in regionals. “Bryson and Kwin advancing to state marked the first time Geneseo has had more than one individual state qualifier. We’re extremely proud of what Bryson accomplished and look forward to having Kwin back next year.”
