Welcome to Geneseo Community Unit School District #228’s curriculum overview.

As a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade district with three elementary schools (Millikin, Northside and Southwest; grades K-5), Geneseo Middle School (grades 6-8), and Geneseo High School (grades 9-12), our curriculum is designed to support students' growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our curriculum is in accordance with the Illinois State Board of Education's standards and instruction, and it focuses on providing engaging learning experiences across all subjects. Whether it's English, math, history, science, or the arts, we aim to spark students' curiosity, encourage them to explore their interests, and commit to providing every student a high-quality education that prepares them for their future endeavors.

Kindergarten through 8th grade “District” course maps were created by teacher teams with members from all schools and are representative of the content and skills all students will receive regardless of which school they attend. High school course maps, developed by content department teams, also designate the content and skills all students will receive regardless of the teacher who teaches the course.

The District’s curriculum (course) maps are fluid, which means the maps may change throughout the school year depending on the needs of the students and local, state, and/or federal requirements. For example, the denoted weeks each unit is taught may differ slightly due to the needs of the students. Some classes may move more slowly or quickly than others across the district. New resources such as textbooks and software often require changes and updates to the course maps. As a result, the maps are living documents subject to updates, reflecting the real classroom experience.
