Geneseo’s Board of Education will continue to recognize students throughout the district at its meetings that take place during the school year.
On Thursday evening, three students were recognized–Jocelyn Bagby and Ryan Coleman from Geneseo Middle School, and Tara Mitchell from Southwest Elementary.
GMS Assistant Principal Dean Johnson introduced Bagby, an 8th grader, and Coleman, a 7th grader.
Johnson shared that Bagby, who is active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and on the GMS softball and volleyball teams, cares about others and led a group of her friends in including a life skills student as part of their friend group.
He noted that Coleman keeps busy as a member of the School Improvement Panel (SIP) and student council, he’s an outstanding student and musician, and a fantastic friend to many.
“Jocelyn and Ryan are humble leaders who impact their school in a positive way,” Johnson said. “They are not the type of students who would seek this recognition, but they are very deserving of it.”
Southwest Principal Brian Hofer introduced Tara Mitchell, a 2nd grader.
Hofer explained Mitchell recently received a Learning Ticket, which is given to students caught demonstrating outstanding learning behavior. She and Hofer celebrated the honor over lunch from McDonald’s.
“Tara shows up every day and sets a great example for her classmates,” said Hofer. “She is in Ms. Everett’s class and they have been looking at the meaning of numbers. Tara found a way to demonstrate the number 6 in a really creative way.”
Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh presented each of the students with a Maple Leaf Medallion. Congratulations to Jocelyn, Ryan and Tara!
