Geneseo’s BOE to attend ice cream social on June 25

Geneseo Community Unit School District #228’s Board of Education will be available to the public at the Geneseo City Park’s ice cream social on Tuesday, June 25.

The evening will be sponsored by the Geneseo Performing Arts Council (GPAC)–which supports band, choir, and theater programs in our schools–and it will include performances by the Geneseo Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade band.

Board members will be on hand from approximately 5:45-8:15 p.m. They will help serve ice cream and have a dedicated area to engage with members of the community. They hope you will come out for a great evening of music, refreshments, fellowship, and good old-fashioned fun.

The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) defines a board of education, also called the school board, as “a unit of local government that establishes direction, goals, and priorities for a school district and determines policy, budget, leadership, and administration.”

According to the IASB, school board members represent the interests of two million Illinois public school children. School board members are elected by their local communities during a non-partisan, consolidated election and serve four-year terms.
