Five Northside Elementary students–Kennedy Armstrong, Breckyn Granell, Lucy Johnson, Lena Kempher and Adi Smith–were recognized at the Board of Education’s October meeting on Thursday evening.
Northside Principal Joe Mowen was on hand to introduce the students.
“A couple years ago, one of our students, Hailey Olson, started the birthday club at Northside,” Principal Mowen explained. “Hailey and some other students began celebrating staff birthdays by decorating their classroom doors. This group has taken what was a good tradition and made it a great tradition.”
Mowen added, “I am so proud of these girls and the positive impact they have on other people. They are wonderful leaders who are so kind to their classmates and they are going to go places.”
Mowen also recognized Sarah Mosier, Tricia Girten, Julie Durian, Mindy Werner and Rachel Rice, who work on Northside’s Ladders to Learning team.
Ladders to Learning recently earned the Illinois State Board of Education’s Circle of Quality distinction for its preschool program.
“We are very fortunate to have an amazing preschool staff and our Ladders to Learning program is outstanding,” said Principal Mowen. “Our staff works incredibly well together and they provide so much love for their students. They all do an outstanding job getting students ready for kindergarten.”
Each of the students and staff also received a Maple Leaf Medallion from Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh. Congratulations to all!
