In honor of Veterans Day, Geneseo High School will host an assembly on November 11 at 10 a.m. for local vets and Aisle of Flag volunteers. Honorees and their families are invited to arrive at 9:40 a.m. for coffee and drinks and enter through the Performing Arts Center doors. Under the instruction of Sam Bush and Missy Jackson, 7th grade geography students worked in groups to come up with a total of 46 designs for a new state flag. Jessi Haars, Geneseo Middle School 7th grade ELA teacher, was nominated for and received a Maple Leaf Medallion. It's Election Day 2024 at GMS! All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are casting their mock ballot for president at the GMS polling station today. Students learned about the candidates through discussion and conducting their own research, and then cast their vote for president. Crazy at is sounds, any 8th grader already 14 years old will be eligible to vote in 2028, wow! Special thank you to our Social Studies Teachers and Mrs. DePauw for giving students an exciting sneak preview into our election process.
We had quite the "hyped" day at GMS with 6th grade students combining Ancient Egyptian Sessions Day and the Red Ribbon Week character dress up day. Tons of energy and enthusiasm combined with lots of learning and fun through the day. Hopefully students still have the strength and motivation to go door to door for candy!
Geneseo Middle School 8th grade student, Eleanor George, was recently selected and honored at the Illinois Art Education Association Student Art Show. Over 600 artworks from around the state were submitted and only 43 were selected...and Eleanor's was one of them!!!
Her art will travel the state over the next year in a variety of venues for everyone to see. "I am so proud of her and applaud her for her accomplishment!" shared Mr. Hamilton, Eleanor's 7th grade art teacher.
Nothing like a middle school fall dance to bring smiles to faces. 300 7th and 8th graders Cupid Shuffled, Macarena'd, and just danced the night away in the GMS Machine Shed Friday night.
GMS 7th & 8th grade Cross Country competed at the IESA State Meet to wrap up a fantastic season and 7th & 8th grade bands had an early celebration with their annual Halloween concert with fun music and costumes too!!!

This week, Geneseo's Michele Hepner was formally presented with her 2024 School Nutrition Champion award by Tim Murphy and Roxanne Ramage of the Illinois State Board of Education’s Nutrition Department and Samia Hamdan and Vista Fletcher from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The recognition took place at Geneseo Middle School, where the guests also toured the building and met with some of the school nutrition team. Congrats again to Michele! Good luck to our XC middle school team as they head to the IESA State meet on Saturday. Today they took part in our GMS Walk of Champions to celebrate a phenomenal season on their way to state.
Geography students at GMS designed their own Illinois flags this past week, selecting historical and modern images to symbolize this great state of ours. Groups electrically submitted their work to the IL Flag Commission for consideration as the actual next state flag. Thank you to Ms. Bush, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. DePauw for leading our students through this incredibly engaging design process.

Two amazing young leaders were honored with Maple Leaf Medallions at GMS on Monday. Kyah Newell, a Senior at GHS who volunteer coached and mentored with our GMS Softball program, and Khloe VonHolten, an 8th grade Softball player who demonstrates incredible grit and selfless leadership every day, on and off the field.
GMS students work their tails off practicing math skills through Khan Academy every week. About 200 of them earned enough level ups and minutes for some fun in the sun with their peers Thursday afternoon!
