This year’s spelling bee will take place on December 19th in the Large Group Room beginning at 8:30 a.m. for any 8th grade student interested in competing. 8th grade students who choose to participate in the spelling bee are required to see Mrs. Plant or Mrs. Francque by December 13th to sign up and receive a practice study list. Only 8th grade students who have ‘pre-registered’ by  December 13th may compete in the bee.

Gray Matters will meet this Thursday at 7:35 am in the small gym.  Come and learn about mental health or to meet new people.  We hope to see you there.

Attention 7th and 8th grade girls interested in GMS basketball: Early this week you were able to sign up for girls basketball in your PE/health classes. If you missed that opportunity, please see me Coach Monier in room #602 or send him an email. If you signed up but are no longer interested, please see him or email him to remove your name. The girls season doesn't start up until AFTER Winter Break but we need to check on the status of your sports physical prior to that. You can't practice or play in games until it has been turned in. There will be a sheet posted outside of the girls locker room at the end of the week. If you have any questions please check with Coach Monier. Thanks.

Do you have a knack for trivia? Love a little friendly competition? If so, please consider joining the GMS Scholastic Bowl team! There will be an informational meeting for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student interested in Scholastic Bowl in Mrs. Francque’s classroom, Room 812, on Thursday, December 12th at 7:40 a.m. If you are unable to attend but would like to be a part of the team, please check in with one of the coaches, Mrs. Francque or Mrs. Scheider, before winter break. Whether you're a trivia master or just curious to learn, there's a spot for you. Join us and let’s win together!

It’s National Sock Day, and what better way to celebrate than by giving back to our community? The GMS Toy Drive is your chance to spread warmth and joy this holiday season!  Now through the end of this week, drop off new, unwrapped toys and gifts in the donation bin by the west doors. And if you’re feeling festive, consider adding cozy socks to your donation—they’re perfect for spreading extra holiday cheer!  Every gift makes a difference! Together, we can brighten a child’s holiday and show the true spirit of the season. Let’s warm hearts (and toes!) this National Sock Day and beyond. Thank you for making this Christmas unforgettable for those in need!  Happy Holidays and Happy National Sock Day!

The GMS library will host a Teen Read Cafe before school on Wednesday, December 11. We will make origami bookmarks. Space is limited, so you must stop in the library by Monday, December 9, to pick up a ticket to reserve your seat.

Builders Club is kicking off our Clothing and Food Drive to help families in need, and we need your help! Please bring in gently used clothing and non-perishable food items to the collection bins in the lobby. The drive runs from Wednesday December 4 to Friday December 13 so bring in your donations soon! Let’s show our school spirit and give back to the community. Every little bit helps—thank you for your generosity!

Congratulations to the following 8th grade House 2 December Students of the Month: Bella Lewis, Mia O'Dell, and Landon French.  These students are prepared, respectful, involved, dependable and enthusiastic and the 8th grade teachers appreciate their efforts.  Keep up the great work!

Attention Hoops Fans: Our Leafs basketball teams haven't wasted any time in getting going again after our return from Thanksgiving break. On Monday night, our 7Bs hosted the Jordan Jaguars and got gobbled up by the Jaguars. Last night, our A squads headed to Edison to take on the Eagles where we fell prey to the Eagles. Tonight, our B teams head to Hampton and we hope to ground the Hawks. Good luck Leafs!
