During his final meeting as a member of Geneseo Community Unit School District #228’s Board of Education, Bill Menendez was recognized and honored for his many years of being a caring and compassionate advocate for Geneseo and its schools.
Menendez worked as an administrator for the school district for 25 years.
He got his start in 1986 as the assistant principal at the high school—then known as J.D. Darnall Senior High School—before being named principal at Southwest Elementary in 1987. Menendez remained at Southwest until 2008, then served as Millikin Elementary's principal from 2008 to 2010. He returned to his role as Southwest's principal in 2010 before retiring in 2011.
Menendez was elected to Geneseo's Board of Education in 2019 and he served a four-year term.
“Bill has been a wonderful advocate for our students, teachers, administrators and community,” said Heather DeBrock, President of Geneseo’s Board of Education. “He listens to everyone and takes their concerns to heart without judgment. Bill has been a valuable member of our board thanks to his experience and education, as well as his awareness and compassion.”
Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh presented Menendez with a Maple Leaf Medallion and certificate of appreciation on Thursday.
“Anyone who knows Bill knows he is always an advocate for students and staff,” stated Dr. Brumbaugh. “Every conversation we ever had relating to school business always centered around making sure we were meeting their needs. As a superintendent, I can't ask for more than that from a board member, knowing we are working together for the same cause and pulling in the same direction.”
