Over 800 provide input on the search for a superintendent

As Geneseo’s Board of Education moves forward with its search for a new superintendent, it is doing so with feedback from over 800 parents, staff, and community members.

Alan Molby, a consultant for the Illinois Association of School Boards, was on hand at the BOE’s monthly meeting Thursday evening to discuss the results of a recent online survey, how the data will be used, and next steps in the process.

“For over 800 stakeholders throughout the community to take part in the survey was really, really good,” said Molby. “The results offer perspectives on what is important to the community as the Board of Education begins its search for the next superintendent.”

The information gathered was provided to the BOE and used to create a brochure detailing the position. The brochure also includes general information about Geneseo’s school district, local demographics, and specifics about the role itself.

Molby said candidates have already begun the online application process to become Geneseo’s next superintendent and a few called the IASB directly to inquire about the role.

Applications will be accepted now through Feb. 14. The IASB will then take about 10 days to review applications and speak with candidate references, then conduct 8-12 screening interviews with the top-tier candidates. From there, they will narrow the field to approximately 5-6 candidates for Geneseo’s BOE to consider.

“With this timeline,” Molby stated, “it’s possible that a new superintendent could be appointed at the Board of Education’s April meeting.”
