Geneseo High School has been named among the best schools in Illinois after receiving “Exemplary” status from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), which released its annual Illinois Report Card for 2023-24 on Wednesday.
The Illinois Report Card is the state’s official source for information about public schools across Illinois. Families, researchers, policy makers, and community members can use IllinoisReportCard.com to find school data, including academic performance, school environment, educators, students, and highlights provided by principals.
The designation of “Exemplary” means that GHS ranks in the top 10% of public schools in Illinois. According to ISBE, there are approximately 704 high schools in the state.
In addition to overall performance in the top 10% of all schools, “Exemplary” status is defined by ISBE by having “no underperforming student groups at or below the ‘all students’ group of the lowest-performing 5% of schools” and high schools having a graduation rate higher than 67%.
Geneseo High School’s graduation rate is 98.4%, while the state average is 87.7%.
“Achieving ‘Exemplary’ status is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment of our entire Geneseo High School community,” said Tom Ryerson, Principal. “This recognition reflects not only the academic efforts of our students but also the passion, expertise, and relentless support provided by our outstanding teachers and staff.”
Ryerson continued, “Additionally, we owe a huge thank you to our parents and the broader Geneseo community, whose ongoing support and engagement make it possible for all our students to thrive. Together, we have created an environment that empowers students to reach their full potential, and I am proud to see our school ranked among the top in Illinois.”
“This distinction is a credit to the hard work of our students, staff, and community,” stated Dr. Adam Brumbaugh, Superintendent. “It’s always nice to be recognized for the efforts made by so many, culminating in a successful high school experience that has prepared our students to be college, career, and life ready.”
