High School – Back To School Information 2018-2019
August 1, 2018
The 2018-2019 school year officially begins on Thursday, August 23rd for our GHS students. I hope everyone had some time to relax and recharge over the summer. I want to share some back to school information with our Geneseo High School families.
High School classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23rd. Early Bird classes will begin on Friday, August 24th. There will be no Early Bird on August 23rd. All Early Bird classes begin at 7:00 am with the exception of Mr. Johnsen’s Wellness class which begins on Monday August 27th at 6:20 am.
On Thursday and Friday, August 23rd and 24th, students will be dismissed one hour early.
On Monday, August 10 at approximately 4pm Student Schedules will be viewable in Skyward Family Access. If you have any questions about your schedule, please email your counselor. For email and phone number information please check out the counseling website https://gcsdstaff.org/hscounseling/ The counselors will have limited access to emails until August 16th.
Important: Please make sure that your student prints a copy of his or her class schedule to bring to school on the first day. Due to possible class changes between when schedules were initially made and the first day of school, I suggest you run a final copy of the schedule the Sunday evening before school begins.
Lockers & Padlocks
On Friday, August 17 locker assignments will be viewable in Family Access.
All incoming freshmen have been assigned a hallway locker padlock that they will keep for the entire time they are with us. This lock has been placed on their lockers. Returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors should remember to bring in the padlock they took home at the end of last school year. You will see student locker number assignments and locker combinations in Family Access on August 17th. Please be sure your student has his or her locker information for the first day of school. If you have an issue with a lock or locker, please see Mrs. VanOpdorp in the Athletic Office before school.
Student Parking Information
On Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14 Parking Passes will be sold to Seniors and Juniors in the Main Lobby of the high school from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm. There will be no individual assigned parking spaces and the spaces will not be numbered. Parking lots will be first come, first served with the exception of designated staff parking. As a result, there would be no benefit to lining up early to purchase your parking pass. Detailed parking maps will be available when you purchase your parking pass so you will be familiar with the student parking areas. Parking Passes can also be purchased at GHS Open House. Parking Passes are $35, which includes a $5 deposit, which will be returned to you if you turn in your undamaged parking tag at the end of the school year.
Athletic Activity Pass Sales
On Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14 Parking Passes will be sold to Seniors and Juniors in the Main Office of the high school from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm. GHS Athletic Activity Passes are $10.00 apiece for grades K-12. We have adult Athletic Activity Passes available for purchase. The cost is $50.00 apiece for adults who are out of high school through age 64 and $40.00 each for adults age 65+. Passes can also be purchased at GHS Open House.
If you are purchasing parking, activity passes, t-shirts, etc. please make checks payable to CUSD #228. Due to the fact that these sale items have their own accounts, separate checks or cash payments (exact change, if possible) are needed for each item, please. Thank you for understanding.
Bus Rider Information
Students who are bus riders will be dropped off in the morning midway between GHS and GMS (similar to what happened last year) and will walk to GHS from that drop off point. For the ride home, students will walk to the same drop off point as in the morning and catch a bus to GMS, where they will load onto their afternoon buses.
